Volunteer Spotlight
July 25th, 2024
We are honored to introduce you to one of our hardest working volunteers, Gavin! He started volunteering with us during the summer of 2022 in order to give back to his community and learn something new. If you’ve been to our Farm Stand on Saturdays, you’ve probably seen Gavin helping us out! Working with us on the farm has allowed him to not only achieve his goal of giving back to his community, but has made him more self reliant, responsible, and mature. All of the plant knowledge he’s gained is definitely a big bonus. We want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Gavin for all of your help on the farm! If you’d like to volunteer with us, please send us an email at HarvestGreen@Agmenity.com.
We are thrilled that you enjoyed our watermelons this summer! Due to their popularity and the wet conditions we’ve had in the field, we are officially sold out of watermelons for the year. Luckily, we still have Korean melons for you! While they don’t taste like a traditional watermelon, they’re still sweet, juicy, and super refreshing on a hot day. Aside from their unique flavor, we love that both the skin and flesh of Korean melons are edible. You can simply slice them up and scoop out the seeds and you’re good to go. Make sure to snag one at the Farm Stand this Saturday!
Have you had a chance to try any of our bitter melons? Though they’re in the same family as all of our other melons, bitter melons have a distinct nutty and bitter flavor. They grow incredibly well during our hot and humid summers thus they are a mainstay at the Farm Stand throughout the summer months. Farmer Ky loves bitter melon! Here’s one of his favorite ways to enjoy it: cut the bitter melon in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Stuff the inside with seasoned minced pork or tofu and mushrooms then cook the stuffed bitter melon in a soup, broth, or boiling water. Here’s a similar recipe if you’d like to try it this weekend.
