Tuesday Tomato Talk Next Week!

Do you absolutely love tomatoes and can’t get enough of them while they’re in season? If so, we highly encourage you to join us for our Tuesday Tomato Talk and Tasting coming up next Tuesday, June 11th, from 6-7pm on the farm! Tomatoes are one of our longest investment crops as they’re seeded in the greenhouse in January and harvested through the month of June. This interactive talk will explore the critical growing window for this fascinating crop in the Houston region in addition to our tried and true varieties and the care that’s involved with maintaining the plants. Attendees will be able to taste all of our varieties and take home a sampler bag to enjoy. This is a ticketed event that is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased here.
The tomato celebration continues on Saturday, June 15th from 10am-noon with our annual La Tomatina Padre event. In order to fully embrace the tomato vibes, make sure to stop by the Farmers Market for some delicious tomatoes before heading over the bridge for the festivities. This resident-only event will include our signature tomato toss, a waterslide and a local fire truck to help cool you off, and light bites and drinks. Have you had a chance to try all of our tomato varieties at the Farm Stand? We highly recommend enjoying them while you can because their season is beginning to wind down! Whether you prefer larger slicing varieties or smaller cherries, we have them all in season. Here are some of the ways the Farm Team has been cooking and creating with tomatoes this month:
Ky loves to make a simple and refreshing smoothie with tomatoes, ice, and a little bit of honey or sugar for sweetness. He prefers doing this with the meatier slicing tomatoes like the Valencia variety.
Bethany has been using both the tomatoes and peppers to make flavorful sauces like romesco and roasted salsa.
Nathan has regularly been making batches of marinara sauce in addition to the classic French dish ratatouille.
