Storytime Scavenger Hunt and Fig Orchard Volunteer Day

October 31st, 2024

We invite Harvest Green residents of all ages to join us for our Farm Storytime and Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, November 9th from 10-11am! We’ll start with a reading of The Little Scarecrow Boy and finish with a farmer-guided scavenger hunt around the farm inspired by the themes in the book. Parents are welcome to join their kiddos during the event or you can relax with a stroll around the Farmers Market. This event is great for kids that are 6-12 years old and is available exclusively for current residents of Harvest Green.

Remember the second half of the fig orchard that we planted along with the help of some hard working volunteers back in March? The trees are doing well and have put on lots of healthy growth, especially the ones planted last fall! In order to ensure the beauty and eventual fruitfulness of the orchard, we invite volunteers to join us on Saturday, November 16th from 9am-12pm for our Community Fig Orchard Beautification Day. With your help, we’ll be weeding and adding a fresh layer of mulch and compost to help keep the trees happy throughout the winter. This event is open to the public and all necessary tools, water, and snacks will be provided. Please make sure to sign up here if you plan on attending!

Salad mix and head lettuces have made their way back into season this week at the Farm Stand! We’ve been succession planting our lettuce in order to make sure we have a steady supply for you throughout the fall and winter. Our favorite way to enjoy lettuce is with a homemade ranch dressing packed with fresh herbs like dill, parsley, and chives (like this one). Toss in some of our thinly sliced radishes, Hakurei turnips, and banana peppers and you’ve got a delicious and colorful side dish! Make sure to stop by the Farm Stand this weekend to stock up on lettuce and let us know your favorite dressing to pair it with!
