Storytime and Scavenger Hunt this Weekend!
November 7th, 2024
Don’t forget about our two events coming up this weekend and next! This Saturday, November 9th from 10-11am we invite Harvest Green residents of all ages to join us for our Farm Storytime and Scavenger Hunt featuring The Little Scarecrow Boy. This event is free of charge and available exclusively for Harvest Green residents. Meet by the entrance to the greenhouse if you plan on attending!
Next Saturday, November 16th, volunteers are welcome to join us spruce up the fig orchard for our Community Fig Orchard Beautification Day. This event is open to the public and all tools will be provided. We ask that you sign up here if you’d like to attend so we can plan snacks and water accordingly!
We’ve been sharing the journey of our Napa cabbage from the greenhouse to the field since August. We’re happy to report that we harvested the first Napa cabbages this week and you can find them at the Farm Stand on Saturday! Napa is an Asian cabbage variety with crinkly leaves and a mild, sweet flavor. It is versatile in the kitchen as it can be enjoyed raw, cooked, or fermented. Our absolute favorite way to enjoy Napa cabbage is in a batch of kimchi! Here’s a tutorial for making your own.
The great thing about this time of year is that there is typically at least one new crop making its way into season every week. Looking ahead, we expect to make the first carrot harvest very soon! Our snow peas just started flowering (above) which means they will be making their way to the Farm Stand over the next few weeks. Slightly further out, we’ll have the first cauliflower and broccoli of the season. We hope you’ve been enjoying the delicious fall bounty as much as we have! For a full list of what is currently in season, scroll down to the bottom of the post.
