Spring Programming and Events at the Farm
March 15th, 2023
We had a blast with all of the kiddos that came out to the farm yesterday for our Spring Break Nature Excursion! We loved being able to see them find joy in something that we’re all incredibly passionate about. Towards the end of the excursion, they got to take part in harvesting herbs, lettuce, and carrots for a farm-to-table lunch. They were all so proud of their harvests and couldn’t wait to enjoy them! We’ll have more programming for kids coming up later this spring and summer so make sure to stay tuned.
There are two resident-only events coming up next weekend on the farm. On Friday, March 24th from 6-8 pm, we’ll be hosting our existing Farm Club and Veggie Share members for a Pizza Night. We’ll be using our pizza oven and offering up toppings harvested right here on the farm! We emailed all of our members so make sure to RSVP so we know how much dough to make! On Saturday, March 25th, the Harvest Green Lifestyle Team will be hosting their Farm Olympics here. Residents will compete in four-person teams in a variety of farm-themed games. We can’t wait to see you on the farm!
Kohlrabi is making its way back into season this week! The round bulbous end that you can see in the photo above is actually a swollen meristem rather than a root. Both the stem and the leaves of kohlrabi are edible and can be eaten raw or cooked. To use the stem, simply cut or peel away the tough outer skin. The leaves can be used just like kale or collard greens. Farmer Daphne recommends finely chopping the peeled kohlrabi stem and combining it with some of our chopped carrots, herbs, and a little vinegar for a springtime slaw. You’ll be able to find kohlrabi at the farm stand on Saturday or you can add it to your Veggie Share this week.
