Special Earth Day Market and Our Vegetable Share Program
April 12th, 2023

Earth Day is coming up on the 22nd of this month and there’s no better place to celebrate it than at The Village Farm! We’ll be hosting a special Earth Day Market during our Farmers Market on Saturday, April 22nd, from 9am-noon. Celebrate and give back to nature by helping the farm team pick up litter along the creek from 9-10am. Then, make sure to sample some of our organic spring veggies at the tasting tent from 10-11am. Before you leave, you can upcycle newspapers into take-home seedling pots from 11am-12pm. This event is open to the public and free of charge. We hope to see you there!

In case you missed the announcement last week, our Vegetable Share Program just started its new season this week! The 2023-2024 season brings exciting changes like the addition of a limited number of public shares and a special resident discount. As always, residents receive the option for free home delivery on Thursdays. Curious what a typical share looks like? This week includes your choice of beets, fennel, cabbage, carrots, patty pan squash, leeks, chard, and an onion. Here’s how we would enjoy these veggies:
Sauté the chard and leeks together and enjoy them on a pizza
Use the patty pan squash and onions as a taco filling
Shred the cabbage and carrots and make them into a slaw
Thinly slice and pickle the beets then mix them with thinly sliced fennel and dollops of ricotta for a spring salad

Celeriac is making its way back into season! Celeriac, or celery root, is a variety of celery grown for the bulbous stem rather than the stalks. It has a sweet and mild celery flavor with a texture similar to a turnip or a potato. Once the outer skin is removed, celeriac can be enjoyed raw or cooked. Farmer Nathan seared large rounds of celeriac and enjoyed them as a burger patty while Farmer Daphne added some to a batch of lentil soup. We’ll have a limited amount of celeriac for you at the Farm Stand this Saturday.
