Preparing for Our Wood-Fired Pizza Night and Peak Tomato Season
May 18th, 2023
We have a few spots remaining for our Wood-Fired Pizza Night this Friday, May 19th! This farm-to-table event will feature pizza pies made in our wood-fired oven with toppings grown on the farm. We’re looking forward to making our own version of the classic Margherita pizza with the tomatoes and basil we’ve harvested! In addition to the pizza buffet, there will be live music provided by local artist Sean Heyl, lawn games, and activities for the kids to enjoy. This event is ticketed and open to the public. You can secure your tickets here!
Speaking of tomatoes…we’re in peak tomato season! Since tomato season in our climate can be fairly short, now is the time to take advantage of these delicious fruits. Here’s a guide to all of the varieties you’ll be able to find at the Farm Stand over the next few weeks:
Granadero: our most reliable and prolific paste variety. Great for making tomato paste, sauce, or salsa.
Cipolla’s Pride: a large sauce variety with a more developed flavor. The drier texture ensures that these tomatoes cook down into sauce more quickly.
Valencia: orange slicing variety with a sweet flavor. These meaty tomatoes are perfect for fresh eating and adding to sandwiches and burgers.
Galahad: red beefsteak variety with a moderately sweet flavor. Like Valencia, these tomatoes are great for slicing and enjoying fresh or making into salsa.
Get Stuffed: a stuffing variety with streaked yellow and red skin. The hollow cavity and thick walls of this tomato make it perfect for stuffing and baking.

Clementine: an orange cocktail tomato with a sweet-tart flavor. They make a great addition to salads and are delicious when halved and roasted.
Black Strawberry: a larger cherry variety that is marbled in shades of red, purple, and gold. This sweet and fleshy tomato is perfect for adding to salads.
Principe Borghese: an Italian heirloom with a rich flavor and drier flesh. This variety is ideal for sun-drying or dehydrating.
Black Cherry: a medium-sized cherry variety that is sweet and juicy. Use this variety in salads or for snacking.
Sungold: an orange cherry variety that is a community favorite. These sweet and fruity tomatoes are great for fresh eating or roasting.
Cherry Bomb: a red cherry variety with moderate sweetness. These tomatoes are great for blistering or cooking into a quick sauce.
