Post-Freeze Update
January 27th, 2025

We hope you’re faring well and staying warm after the winter storm! It was definitely a rare occasion to see the farm blanketed in snow. The greenhouse remained the warmest place throughout the week which means our newly up-potted tomato plants are thriving along with recently planted pepper and eggplant seedlings. We also have crops like lettuce and Swiss chard that are doing well and ready to be planted to make up for losses in the field.

Despite the wintry conditions, all of the varietals growing in our tunnels are doing well and even put on new growth. The frost cloth we installed in the tunnels really helped with keeping the temperatures warm and everything happy.

Though it will take some time to determine whether or not some of our field crops will pull through, it appears that most things that were covered are faring well. We remain hopeful but it will take time to see how everything responds to the stress of a prolonged hard freeze. As we watch our field crops over the coming weeks, we’ll have a better understanding of what will bounce back.

We still have a good diversity of crops available at the Farm Stand and for our Veggie Share members but you can expect to see more limited options over the next several weeks as the farm recovers. Our variety may decrease further as we sell through our bulk-harvested storage crops and wait for others to bounce back. We will keep you updated each week with what we have and look forward to seeing you at the Farm Stand and Farmers Market every Saturday from 9am-1pm!
