The swift arrival of spring brings with it new crops and new opportunities. If you’re a Harvest Green resident looking to engage with the agricultural character of the community in a deeper manner, we invite you to join our Farm Club! Members of Farm Club have the opportunity to grow food in their own plot on the farm with the expertise and guidance of our Farm Educators. Membership also comes with all of the tools you’ll need from seeds to compost along with exclusive access to social events like pizza nights. We will be kicking off the Farm Club spring season by planting tomatoes and cucumbers at the beginning of March so now is a great time to join! Whether you’re a new resident or have been here since the beginning, we would love to have you. Learn more and sign up here.

Remember how we mentioned at the beginning of the year that we wanted to experiment with an earlier tomato planting? Last week we planted the first two rows of cherry tomatoes in our high tunnels and this week we’re adding a row of slicing tomatoes! This is the earliest we’ve ever been able to plant our tomatoes. The protection and warmth of the high tunnel not only allowed us to plant them earlier this year but will hopefully encourage them to begin producing fruit sooner as well. Ultimately, we want to provide you with the longest tomato season we can!

Since our high tunnels allow us to plant spring crops earlier than previously possible in the field, we’ve already started the seeds for the first round of cucumbers and zucchini in the greenhouse! While tomatoes are longer growers, requiring more time in the greenhouse before transplanting, cucumbers and summer squashes grow much quicker. As you can see below, they’re already germinating. We hope you’re as ready as we are for them to make their way back into season!
