Our Organic Certification

We’re excited to share the news that the farm is officially certified organic! The Village Farm is now one of only three certified organic vegetable farms in the Southeast Texas area!

From Day 1 on the farm, we have always utilized sustainable and organic practices because we deeply believe that these produce healthier food and a safer environment for our community and team members. So while our growing methods won’t change, being officially certified means that we will now be annually inspected to ensure that our recordkeeping and field practices fully align with federal and state standards regarding soil health and amendments, seeds, cover cropping, habitat preservation, pests, and many other farm management practices. And as always, you can find our organic produce at the farm stand every Saturday from 8am-noon!

Now that we’ve made it to the other side of the late season frost, we’re shifting our focus to planting. So far this week, we’ve been able to plant four rows of peppers. We have a mix of sweet and hot peppers like Aji Rico, Red Ember, Escamillo, and Carmen. We also planted a perennial row with herbs like sage, oregano, rosemary, and thyme. And, we planted some annual herbs like sweet basil and cilantro. It’s shaping up to be a particularly delicious spring!

Our resident birder Nathan will be leading a bird walk this Saturday (March 19th) on the farm. This event is free of charge and open to all ages. According to Nathan, this is a very active season for birds so it should be a really great walk! If you’re interested, we’ll meet at the farmers market at 9am before walking over to the farm. We hope to see you there!

Currently in Season: Radishes, Broccolini, Scallions, Fiolaro, Cabbage, Lettuce, Spinach, Kale, Radicchio, Ruby Streaks Mustard Greens, Swiss Chard, Bok Choy, Collard Greens, Cilantro, Dill, and Parsley
