Harvesting Watermelons and Farm Tour this Weekend

June 27th, 2024

Watermelons have made their way back into season! We have two different varieties of this summer favorite: Sugar Baby and Tom. Sugar Baby (above left) has a dark green skin and red flesh. It’s considered an “icebox” or “picnic” variety because it is small enough to easily fit inside your fridge or a picnic basket. Tom (above right) is a slightly larger variety with light green skin and dark green stripes. Both of these watermelon varieties are sweet, refreshing, and perfect for summer snacking! For a simple summer salad, we recommend tossing cubed watermelon with feta, mint or basil, and a squeeze of lime juice. Make sure to pick up some watermelon at the Farm Stand this Saturday while they’re in season!

If you’d love to sample some watermelon and see all of our summer crops, including our beautiful flower patch, we invite you to join us for our Farm Tour! Our next monthly Farm Tour is this Saturday, June 29th from 10-11am. In addition to seeing what’s growing, you’ll have the opportunity to check in with our resident goats and chickens. Our tours are open to the public and free of charge. We kindly request that you sign up here beforehand if you plan on attending.
