Harvesting the First Fall Crops
SEPTEMBER 20th, 2022
We harvested the first fall crops from our HVF rows this past weekend! We’ll have both French breakfast radishes and arugula available for you this week at the farm stand and in your Vegetable Shares. Both arugula and radishes can be eaten raw or cooked. If you find them a touch too peppery, cooking them will mellow out their spice! Here’s a recent sandwich we made with both of these veggies that we really enjoyed: layer your favorite bread with fresh arugula, thinly sliced radishes, brie cheese, a drizzle of honey, and prosciutto. It’s super simple and incredibly delicious!
Remember the 13 rows that we prepared for fall planting? We started planting them last week with the first succession of fall crops! So far we’ve been able to plant red mustard greens (pictured above), Belstar broccoli, DeCicco broccoli, Song cauliflower, Napa cabbage, Caraflex cabbage, Swiss chard, Darkibor kale, and Lacinato kale (pictured below). We also planted more radishes and beets in our HVF rows. We’re optimistic that we will have the first harvest of broccoli and cauliflower available for you at the end of October or very beginning of November.
Our farmers market will be making its way out of summer mode on Saturday, October 1st. And, we are excited to announce that beginning on October 1st, the farmers market will be held EVERY Saturday instead of twice per month! The market will take place from 8am-noon with a mix of familiar and brand-new vendors. Here’s a glimpse at what you’ll be able to purchase at the market: our certified organic produce, Wagyu beef, green juice, tropical plants, vegan baked goods, skin care products, and organically grown transplants for your home garden. We’ll share more about the market next week so stay tuned!
