Farm Tour this Sunday!
October 24th, 2024
As we head deeper into the fall season, most of our summer crops have been phased out to make way for a bevy of delicious new vegetables. If you’re curious what this season looks like on the farm and want to see what we’ve been harvesting and planting, we highly encourage you to join us for our next Meet the Farm tour this Sunday, October 27th, from 1-2pm! Whether you’ve been on our tour before or this is your first time, each one is uniquely different as they highlight the seasonal shifts on the farm. This month’s tour will be accompanied by samples of our crunchy and sweet Hakurei turnips. Our tours are open to the public and free of charge but we ask that you sign up here if you plan on attending.
Pak choi is in season at the Farm Stand! One of the many Asian greens we grow during the fall, pak choi (often called bok choy) is a versatile and quick-growing crop. Pak choi has a nutty and mildly sweet flavor with a subtle peppery undertone that is common in many members of the Brassica family. It’s perfect for braising, stir-frying, and adding to soups. We recommend stir-frying it with some shiitake mushrooms and teriyaki sauce. Or, try wilting it into a soup with shrimp and garlic. You can find pak choi at the Farm Stand this Saturday.
Remember the roselle greens we donated to Neill Elementary last month as part of the Harvest of the Month Program? In addition to participating in this amazing program, we also donate our extra seedlings for their school garden when we can. Recently, we were able to give both Neill Elementary and another local school in Sugar Land that our Volunteer Melanie works with some small garden tool sets. Since a lot of school gardens are often run by volunteers, we try to help out when we can!
