Fall Kickoff at the Farmers Market this Saturday!

October 3rd, 2024

Our Fall Season Kickoff at the Farmers Market is this Saturday, October 5th, from 9am-1pm! Come join us for a morning of fall fun as you greet and feed our animals, snap some photos in the pumpkin patch, or have a romp in the bounce house. You’ll also have the opportunity to go on a Farm Tour at 10am to see all of our new and upcoming crops. In addition to the fall festivities, we will have fun farm-themed prize giveaways for anyone who makes a purchase at the market this weekend. Have a peek at some of them below! This event is open to the public and free of charge so we hope to see you there!

Are you interested in growing your own vegetables this fall and winter? Or maybe you want to hone your gardening skills and learn about the upcoming cooler growing season? If so, we would love for you to join us on Tuesday, October 15th from 6-7pm on the farm for our Seasonal Gardening Series: Cool Season Edition. We’ll be covering which crops are best to plant this time of year and how to use successions to ensure steady harvesting from now through winter and early spring. You’ll get hands-on planting experience in addition to a fall transplant to take home and add to your garden. Space is limited so make sure to head here to secure your spot!

We have several new fall crops available at the Farm Stand this weekend including Tokyo bekana and the first roselle pods. Tokyo Bekana (pictured below) is one of our Asian greens that comes into season fairly early in the fall. It’s a non-heading Chinese cabbage variety with buttery soft leaves and a mild cabbage flavor. Since it has such a soft texture, it can be chopped and used as salad greens. It can also be sauteed, stir-fried, steamed, or grilled. For a simple side dish, try stir-frying Tokyo bekana with garlic, scallions, soy sauce, and a splash of rice vinegar. For a full list of what’s currently available at the Farm Stand, scroll down to the bottom of the post.
